2015-Present
Hello everyone! I am Dr. Abubakar M. Khan, an American Citizen, born and raised. I went abroad for Medical School to Pakistan, the country my parents are from. I spent the last 6 years there completing my education and witnessing the struggle of the individuals living there. Never in my life have I seen so many poor, deserving, underprivileged, humble people in my life. This is our story.
I.
One day a Doctor was sitting in his office and was notified that a patient had passed away. He went outside, examined the body and gave the 'okay' to have the body transported. The doctor then went on to see other patients and continue on with his duties. A few hours later, he returned and the deceased body was still there. He told them again to have this body transported immediately.
The doctor continued to see more patients and then went out for dinner that evening. After about 4-5 hours, he returned only to see the body had STILL not been moved. He asked them what the problem was and why the body had not been transported since the past 8-10 hrs. They said the patient's family does not have enough money to transport the body and the concerned transporters DENIED transportation of the body without getting paid first.
That deceased individual is someone's close family member. Just because they are poor and underprivileged does not mean their loved one's body shouldn't get the same respect and treatment as anyone else's. Imagine if that body was of one of your close family or friend's (God forbid). We all would want it to be treated with care and respect, as it should. That poor family was trying to gather money left and right just so their loved one's body can be transported from the hospital.
THIS is why this society was created. So these poor patients and families can be taken care of. So everyone can be treated no matter the cost of their operations. EVERYONE DESERVES A CHANCE TO LIVE. Saving one life, saves humanity.
"We cannot let them die just because they cannot afford to live" -Patient Benevolent Society
*Our Mission: *
The Patient Benevolent Society is a non-political, non-profit, non-religious, non-discriminatory, registered merit-based Society which believes in 100 % Merit, striving hard to help the Poor and Deserving patients admitted in the Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex, Lahore as well as other hospitals, irrespective of any race, religion, cast and/or complexion.
PBS is a self-initiative taken by the Faculty, Doctors and Medical students of this complex to serve the poor and suffering humanity. It was officially inaugurated on May 28, 2016. Our hospital/college's Patient Benevolent Society has been working with great commitment for the past few years to ease the plight of suffering humanity.
Here, at Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, it was created with a view to help poor patients who couldn't afford expensive procedures and treatment. There was a dire need for such a welfare organization here at our hospital as it is a very expensive place for the average person to get treatment in. The patients selected for funding are those who pass a stringent system of eligibility and financial assessment by the PBS council’s doctors. All of the members of the PBS council have taken an oath and we are very particular that everyone’s charity reaches the most deserving of people.
*Blessings:*
