Party Bots 2.0 World Champs Trip
Donation protected
On March 5, 2017 the Floral Park Party Bots 2.0 Lego Robotics Team won the 2nd Place Champions Award at the Long Island Championships, qualifying them to move on to the First Lego League World Championship in St. Louis, MO from April 26-29th.
We are a 10 member team consisting of students of all ages within the 4th to 8th grades at Floral Park Bellerose School, John Lewis Childs School and Floral Park Memorial High School that needs your help and support in order for us to travel to St. Louis to represent Floral Park amongst the top 108 teams in the World! Your donations will go directly to the travel expenses associated with our trip (e.g. hotel, airfare, registration, project materials, etc), enabling us to compete among the best teams in the world. The estimated cost per team member for the trip is $1,000 for just airfare and hotel. Our goal of $5,000 will help us to cover half of the total expenses of the trip.
The Floral Park Party Bots 2.0 are tomorrow’s innovators who practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. This year's FIRST LEGO League theme was Animal Allies. Each team had to research a real-world problem related to the interaction between humans and animals. We also had to design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.
We have done extensive research on Reducing Vehicle Animal Collisions, “VACs”. We have taken field trips to expand our knowledge and worked with professionals. Our team’s innovative solution is the development of a VAC Prevention System to “ping” mobile devices and GPS that there is animal activity ahead. This will allow the drivers to slow down, be more cautious and reduce VACs.
During this incredible journey, the Party Bots certainly know how to have fun (as our name implies). However, we do this while still learning to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along our discovery journey, we have developed critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as we must present our solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. We also practice the Program’s signature Core Values.
We truly hope you will support us and be a part of our amazing journey and accomplishment. Any amount you can give (no amount is too small), will greatly help.
The team would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support, encouragement and generosity!
