Hurricane Harvey Parent Center Fund

Wondering how you can lend immediate help to families affected by Hurricane Harvey? Please read this message! There’s a way we all can help.

As a parent and CEO of Parent to Parent of Miami a nonprofit organization that provides help, hope, and support to families of children and adults with disabilities, I personally know the devastation that hurricanes bring to all those affected. Families who have a child with disabilities are especially hard-hit and often are desperately in need of vital medical services. Please take a moment to hear our family’s experience, and you’ll see how you can help our fellow families in Texas.

My daughter Daniela has cerebral palsy and was 9 years old when Hurricane Andrew devastated Miami-Dade County. Twenty five years ago we decided not to go to a shelter due to Daniela's physical and medical needs. As a result, we had many challenges. No fresh water, electricity, nutritional supplements for her gastro tube feedings, and securing her seizure medications was a challenge for days.  Although you prepare, every storm is unique, and we all hope that we will be spared  the wrath of nature.

The good news is that, once we received immediate assistance for our family, my house became the central point to help other families.  A fax machine was donated, and we had phone service.  With this technology, I was able to connect hundreds of families like ours to vital resources and much needed medical attention.

Today, I am part of an amazing nationwide network of Parent Centers that help families of children and adults with disabilities connect to resources and learn as much as they can about the possibilities and opportunities for children with disabilities, so that they can cope with the many challenges and thrive.

I have created this GoFundMe page to help Partners Resource Network, a Parent Center serving children with disabilities in Texas that has been affected by Hurricane Harvey.  The offices of Partners Resource Network in Beaumont and Missouri City in Texas are flooded, and they can't get to them to check on the extent of the damage.  Their dedicated staff is safe and trying to keep up with the demands of the families that they serve, but many have been displaced.  The funds raised will be used to help the staff during the recovery process and to rebuild infrastructure to assist the thousands of families of children and adults with disabilities impacted by this catastrophic event.

I am eternally grateful for the help I received during Hurricane Andrew and hope that you can help me give back by supporting our fundraising efforts on behalf of families in Texas!

With much gratitude for your donation!
