Hola, mi gente!
If you’ve followed me through King of Drag, you’ve probably seen me share some pretty deep pieces of my story (it’s giving the Danny Rojas of the season, IYKYK). I’ve been incredibly grateful to hear from so many of you in the process and the overwhelming support for me and my art. That support has given me the courage to keep stepping more fully into who I am.
And now, I’m asking for your help with what I believe is the next step in that journey: top surgery.
After many years growing in my experience as a Trans Non-binary Latine, I’m ready to pursue surgery for myself, with the hope of booking a date for December 2026 or January 2027.
And yes… Papi is also ready to say adiós to that chest plate.
But underneath the jokes, this is something deeply important to me.
Living in a body that doesn’t feel aligned with who I am affects me every single day. It has taken a toll on my mental health, and my chest has also contributed to chronic back pain that has gotten progressively worse. That pain can make performing difficult and, at times, makes me worry about how long I’ll be able to keep doing drag (which is something I’m not ready to stop doing anytime soon.)
When in drag as Papi Culo, I often get these little glimpses of the person I know I’m becoming and I know I’m worthy of that.
Now I’ll be honest, Texas and our national health care insurances are BASURA (spanish for trash) so the surgery will be paid entirely out-of-pocket, and it ain’t cheap friends.
I’m in need of $15,000, which will help cover:
- The cost of top surgery, whether through the Crane Center or Dr. Alan Dulin in Dallas
- Travel, surgical, and recovery-related expenses
- Lost wages for three months of recovery
This isn’t an easy thing for me to ask for publicly. I know everyone is navigating life as best they can, and I don’t take anyone’s generosity for granted.
But if you’re able to help, anything makes a difference in getting me one step closer to making this dream a reality. And if you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser still means so much. (If your primo’s primo can help, please send share!)
Gracias mi gente for always being there, I’m incredibly grateful for each of y’all. No matter where my story goes I believe in all of us winning together. I can’t wait for what’s next and to share more with you…
With love & gratitude,
Papi Culo
