This is Pablo. He's almost nine years old, and more than just your average shih-tzu/pug mix - he’s an integral part of our family.
Pablo and Reenie entered each other’s lives during some dark times. It was May 2012, Reenie had just graduated from college, lost and scared of the adult world, and Pablo had been abandoned after hours at a kill shelter. Like most modern relationships, they met online and instantly hit it off. It didn’t take long for them to become best friends.
Pablo and Mike first met in August 2012 during one his many visits to Reenie after college. They instantly bonded over their love of Reenie, macaroni and cheese, and relaxing on a comfy couch. Honestly, Mike wasn't the biggest "dog-guy" for a long time, but that changed when he met Pablo - they immediately bonded. This friendship was long distance for a while, until Pablo and Reenie took the long thousand-mile journey from St. Louis, Missouri to New Rochelle, New York and began their new lives as a family of three.
Time and time again, Pablo has proved himself to be a pillar in Reenie’s life. He has acted as her emotional support animal to help her cope with her ongoing battle with anxiety and depression. Along with her everyday struggles with these diseases, he has specifically helped her through the death of her brother and the various struggles of moving to a new part of the country.
On August 10th, 2019, Pablo was diagnosed with a Canine Gallbladder Mucocele, meaning that his gallbladder is surrounded by a thick layer of mucus. This mucocele is posing an immediate danger to our little guy, as it is hardening and causing his liver functionality to drop. In order to cure his condition and save his life, he will need a costly surgery to remove his gallbladder. The estimated surgery cost will be $8,000-$10,000, not to mention the cost of his three days in the hospital earlier this week.
For those of you have met Pablo in person, you know how he truly is a special dog. He’s a calm, kind presence in any situation, and he is always there to share a plate of scrambled eggs with you. But most importantly, he is our best friend. If you have a dollar to spare, please consider donating to Pablo’s surgery fund. With your generous donations we hope to cover a portion of his total medical bills. We promise to send updates of our little guy throughout his road to recovery and spam your inbox with the most adorable pupper-content ever.
Thank you so much!
