Prynce has a big heart

My son Prynce plays for Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He has been playing football since he was 7 years old. He is now 15 and eats, sleeps and breathes football. Last week my son came to me and said that he did not feel like himself and he did not feel normal. I ask him to explain to me what he meant. He went on to tell me how bad his chest hurts when coughing, laughing, and/or sneezing. He then said that he had been really tired lately and that it felt like something is in his chest near his heart had been moving around. So I asked him a few more questions and assured him that I will take care of it. I also told him to stop playing football until we find out what is going on with him.

The next day I called the Sibley Heart Center and explained to them what was going on. They ask me to bring him in the same day, and I did. The doctor did a EKG and an Echo right there in the office and asked Prynce a lot questions about his day to day and how he had been feeling. The doctor came back in the room with us after the EKG and said, I see something, but I want to be sure of what I am seeing on the EKG, so we will do the Echo to confirm what I am seeing. So I am thinking to myself, Dear God please make it ok!! I could tell from the look on the doctors face that it was not going to be ok. So I continued to talk, laugh and play with Prynce to keep him from worrying, but deep down I was screaming on the inside and my heart pounding not knowing what I was getting ready to hear.

While getting the Echo, Prynce was laughing and playing around taking pictures and selfies, just being his normal silly self. Which I thought was good considering we didn’t know what we were about to hear.

Once completed the doctor comes in and ask Prynce a few more questions.   He then says that Prynce has a Large Atrial Septal Defect(Primary), right ventricular dilation(Secondary), right bundle branch block and wandering atrial pacemaker.  I wanted to cry so bad, but when I looked over at my son he seemed so confused and scared because he didn’t know what that meant.  His first question was, will I be able to play football and run track and am I going to die.  OMG, I felt like why can't  I have it, why can’t we trade places and I take it all for him.   So many things going through my head.

Prynce will have open heart surgery by the end of November 2016.  He still has some testing to do before the doctors can get him set up.  I have not met my deductible yet and there will be some out of pocket expenses along with me being out of work to care for my son. I have no additional income coming in.  There are some things that Prynce will need to be comfortable when he comes home. He will also need some things for him to do Homebound school, being he will be out of school for 12 weeks.  I will keep you all posted on dates.  His surgery will be at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  I asked that you pray for my baby, the doctors, nurses and whoever is a part of his care.   There will be a total of 14 working and helping with this surgery for my baby.
