My name is Nancy Avila and I'm reaching out to you on behalf of my little nephew Luke, whom I love dearly.

At just 5 weeks old, Luke went into DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis) with a blood glucose reading over 1000 and suffered a brain hemorrhage. This, in spite of the fact the hospital said they had tested for diabetes before discharge.

Luke has since been diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation (KCNJ11), as well as infantile spasms, hypotonia, and monogenic diabetes. Additionally, he may have a neurological disease not yet officially diagnosed.

To say the family is heartbroken doesn't begin to describe it. Many medical concerns have arisen since Luke was discharged from the hospital. His motor and verbal skills have not developed. He is nearly two years old but cannot yet crawl or even sit up on his own.

Right now is a crucial window for early intervention, which gives Luke the best possible chance at progress.

Luke has shown so much courage and strength, but he needs more help and his parents cannot provide everything he needs without your help.

The truth is, this journey has become financially overwhelming for the family. Insurance covers some items, but far more items have been deemed "non-essential."

Any donations will help cover the costs of medical equipment, additional therapy sessions, intensive therapies, and traveling expenses to see specialists not available locally.
