Our Brave Girls bucket list

My best friend unfortunately received the most devastating news regarding her beautiful 6 year old daughter. She has been diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) or tumour, in her brain stem.

The brain stem is one of the most important parts of the brain for our survival as all signals for movement, heartbeat, breathing need to travel through this region.

The most heart breaking part about this diagnosis is that there is no treatment available for this type of tumour, and due to the location of the tumour it makes things more difficult. Because the brain stem is such an important area, removing any part of this tissue would cause significant disability. This type of tumour also doesn’t respond to chemotherapy and there are no specific drugs or treatment available to attack it. There have been over 30 scientific studies trying to find a treatment for DIPG, and none of them have been successful. Devastatingly, we need to come to terms with the fact that my friends baby girl only has 9-12 months to live.

With this being said, the most valuable thing we could possibly provide to her family would be time together as a family without financial stress.

As devastating as this is, it is also a very real and scary diagnosis. We would like to remind you to be considerate of the family’s wishes to protect their beautiful girl from unnecessary fear and continue her life as normal.
