My son was brutally attacked on the morning of October 26, 2021 in Philadelphia PA. His injuries are extensive. He was stabbed in the left side of his head and left arm. He also has a compound fracture of the left arm. He was brought to Temple University Hospital where he was taken immediately into neurosurgery. The doctors removed most of the left parietal skull to relieve the swelling and discovered a brain bleed. These are the major injuries.
He has had complications since Tuesday which include: fever, infection, crepitus over the mediastinum, and more loss of blood. The interventions thus far are: intubation, drain placed on the base of his skull, 4 units of blood so far, splinting of his left arm (which still needs surgery), 6 different medications, multiple CT scans, Chest X-rays, and a feeding tube. IV fluids and antibiotics have the fever managed. He is scheduled for a bronchoscopy and endoscopy at 5am tomorrow to try to diagnose where he is leaking air into his body cavity. They will also do a CT of the abdomen to see if his spleen has a laceration.
Sean is under heavy sedation and so far the doctors have not been able to wean him off because he becomes very agitated. The brain injury is extensive and the doctors need to ascertain his cognitive function, so he is having the breathing tube removed from his trachea on Monday or Tuesday and he will have a tracheostomy placed instead. We hope this will help bring Sean out of sedation. Some good news is Sean's vitals are stabilized and even though he is on a ventilator, he is breathing on his own. As terrible as all of this sounds, I am keeping my thoughts positive for him. Sean has two beautiful girls that need their daddy. I have put pictures of his girls up in his room so when he finally opens his eyes he will see them.
Sean has had a tough life. He was traumatized as a child and has been in and out of recovery from opioids and other drugs and alcohol. His path led him to this horrific place, but he did NOT deserve to be brutally attacked like this.
At this point, the hospital is applying for assistance for Sean's medical bills, but I have no idea how that will turn out. I can't even imagine how much this is going to cost.
For this fundraiser, your assistance will help me cover the expense of air travel from Montana, hotels, car rental and food. I do not have a job with paid leave, nor do I have any savings. Being at his side is all I can think about and I'm humbly reaching out so I can cover my expenses and see this through with my son. My husband has been helpful, but we simply don't have the means. I apologize if some of the medical information is choppy. I will update on his condition as things progress. This is the most challenging thing I've ever had to face. Our lives are changed forever. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you and God Bless you all.
