The pod here at Orca Oceanic Systems have decided to raise money for the PE department at Orchard Brae School in Aberdeen to help fund a new specialist trike aimed at children who are wheelchair bound.
The cause is extremely close to our hearts here at Orca. Luca attends Orchard Brae and is the son of our Operations Director Greig. Luca is 7 years old and is autistic. Last week Greig received a wonderful video of Luca independently riding a specialist trike with no assistance. It is something Greig and his family were doubtful Luca would ever achieve. Everyone here at Orca felt the happiness from this special moment and we want to help other families and children at Orchard Brae experience this.
Things like these are made possible by the amazing staff and facilities at Orchard Brae, however the cost of these trikes is phenomenal. The standard trike Luca used is in the region of £2500. The one required which is compatible with a wheelchair is in the excess of £5500. This is a huge amount for the school to try and raise especially with all of the current restrictions. When we heard of the need we absolutely couldn’t wait to help.
Over the next few months Orca will participate in some COVID safe events to help raise money. We will be sharing these ideas on our LinkedIn and Facebook pages frequently in the coming weeks. As the COVID restrictions are eased bigger events will be discussed to help us reach our goal. We would of course welcome any donations that anyone can spare.
