This year I had the privilege of visiting Rwanda, where I met this sweet little girl as she ate lunch at Cindi's Hope Academy. She has the unique opportunity to attend a Christian school at 1 of the 4 Cindi's Hope K-6th grade Campuses. She lives a very basic life in a home made of mud bricks, with no running water or electricity, and walks miles to school every day.

Her parents walk or ride bikes miles every day to the village for water. They fill up numerous 10-gallon water jugs each day that weigh over 50 pounds a piece to provide enough water for drinking, cleaning, and bathing. The vision of each Cindi's Hope campus is to be a hub that helps the town thrive by building a school, a church, and a well to sustain the surrounding community. The greatest obstacle is cost.

Like all Cindi's Hope campuses, the Mwiri campus is in the middle of a Reconciliation Village for genocide survivors. This is a community where victims and their families agree to live together in unity with the perpetrators. When I visited the property where the campus would be built, I was overcome by how rich the sprawling hillsides were, and perfect to grow rich crops and raise animals. This is an important consideration since each campus strives to be self-sufficient.

As we left the site and drove through the small town dirt roads over a muddy river, I noticed people standing in the water filling up their water containers with contaminated run-off water. This is when I realized why it was so critical that a well was drilled before construction could begin. A community well is a meeting place, and fresh, clean drinking water is life-sustaining, and provides kids and their families with their most basic needs.

Cindi's Hope is breaking ground at the new Mwiri campus in May 2023 to open its doors to 125 K-6th grade students in August 2023. The first priority is to drill the borehole for the well. This well water will provide the foundation for what God will soon do in this community and in the lives of the kids and their families.

In support of this important work, On June 2, 2023, I plan to run 100 miles in the mountains of San Diego to raise $20,000 to drill the well and create a community kiosk to provide clean water at the new Mwiri campus of Cindi's Hope. This will take 24-32 continuous hours of running and includes climbing 13,500 feet of elevation over 3 peaks in the Cuyamaca Mountains. During these 24 hours, I expect to drink approximately 6-7 gallons of fresh, clean water. Just like the kids in Africa, if I didn't have access to the water I need, this goal would be impossible.
Will you please consider supporting this worthwhile and impactful cause?
