Okoro Family's Road to Rio!

Let me please start by saying how proud we are as a family of, my sister, Chinwe Okoro. For those of you that may not know, Chinwe began throwing discus in the small town of Russell, KY. Ever since then, her talents, hard work, and relentles work ethic have taken her all over the world, including South Africa, Poland, and Morrocco. However, in less than a month, she will finally be reaching her lifelong dream of attending the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to represent Nigeria. Hopefully, she will not be there alone. My parents, Agnes and Eze, along with my eldest sister, Queena, are currently in the process of planning their costly trip to Rio.

Let me tell you...raising an Olympian is not cheap. My parents have sacrificed so much for my sister to have access to the best equipment and opportunities. I can remember clearly the countless times my mother would forego sleep after working a night shift at the hospital to watch my sister compete at her high school track meet. I remember the day my father took it upon himself to build a shot put ring in our backyard so that my sister could practice her throwing skills at home after doing her homework. I remember when my parents even followed her to Poland to watch her compete in the World Junior Championships. I can go on for hours explaining the dedication they have shown on behalf of my sister.



This is the only way I think I can come close to paying them back for all they have done to help my sister get to this amazing, once in a lifetime point in her career. My parents are extremely humble people and would never ask this of you all. So, I am asking you to please donate whatever you can so that my parents can continue to support my sister, the same way they have all her life, at the 2016 Olympics.


As a gold medalist in the 2012 and 2014 African Championships, I'm excited to say that my sister truly has a shot at claiming a gold medal this summer, and my parents are so excited to witness her perform at such an elite leve. I am organizing this effort to make sure that my parents and sister are able to experience this once in a lifetime opporutnity together.



The funds that you donate will be used to cover airfare, ground transportation, event tickets, and hotel costs of the 2016 Olympics for my parents and sister, Queena. Below is a breakdown of the cost of each of these things:

Airfare: $2010 x 3
Ground Transportation: $500
Event Tickets: $250 x 3
Hotel: $600

Total Costs: $7880

My family would be so thankful if you all could donate whatever you could to help them get to Rio! There is no small donation. Anything is truly appreciated.
