Guinness our beloved boy began having a nosebleed accompanied by reverse sneezing late Monday night (3/30) I brought him in to our regular vet office on Tuesday morning (3/31). Blood tests were run and his platelet count came back abnormally low, they thought a possible autoimmune issue and referred us to an internal medicine specialist. We met with the internal medicine vet on Thursday (4/2) she wanted to at least run another blood platelet test to officially rule out any autoimmune diseases. The platelet test came back within the normal range (thank God). She thought with the reverse sneezing and the blood only trickling from one nostril that the possibility of a foxtail being stuck somewhere in his nose or further back was very likely. She gave us the estimate for a rhinoscopy, this would include sedation, probing into his nasal passage and the beginning part of his throat in hopes of finding a foxtail. If a foxtail is not found she would be doing a fungal culture, if the fungal culture comes back positive she would treat it. If by chance a foxtail and fungus are not found she wants to continue to keep him sedated and do a CT scan to look further into other possible causes of this nosebleed.
We would like to continue on with the rhinoscopy for Guinness but will be left in a financial bind, any little bit would be incredibly appreciated. This almost 4 year old dog has so much more life to live, love to give and adventures to find.
