Mahalia + Isaiah’s Off-Grid Homestead !!
We’re both 26 year old artists/creative spirits. Our journey started in New England (Vermont & Maine) and after a long cross - country trip towards the south, we bought land in Florida! In the past few years we’ve been studying natural building (Adobe, Earthbag, Cobb) and also farming, growing herbs and other ways to live off the land debt - free. We feel that future generations need to learn how to be self- sustainable and respect the earth in a realistic and fun way.
We are all aware of the problems our environment is facing, but it takes action and examples of new strategies to get the youth excited about a different way of life. Our goal is to go ‘back to nature’ and inspire as many others as possible to take their own steps towards freedom!
Buying and developing a small homestead was our first step towards a new future. We are so thankful for the donations so far, and they are what helped us put our first downpayment on our new home. (December 1st, 2020)
We’ve learned so much in the last year and are excited to continue growing and evolving. There have been many challenges along the way, but we are committed to being a positive influence in the world. We are hoping to be fully self-sufficient in the next few years. So far we grow about 25% of our food, collect rainwater, built structures and homemade furniture, and have been sharing most of our experience with our online community!
We are so grateful to be in a position where we can make our dreams a reality, but there is still much more progress to be made. Now we want to transition out of our regular job and work full-time on the land, gardening, creating art, learning new skills and sharing what we know!
