This June 2026, 100+ Filipino migrants, workers, students, and professionals from the Portland metro area are mobilizing to Los Angeles for the historic Kalayaan Summit. The summit, under the theme Lumaban para sa kalayaan mula sa kagutuman at kahirapan ng mamamayan at para sa kasarinlan ng Inang Bayan (Fight for the people’s freedom from hunger and poverty and for the sovereignty of our motherland), represents the powerful efforts of Filipinos in the US to come together and forge unity as one people to tackle the urgent issues confronting our community today.

We are conducting fundraising in the lead up to the summit to support our contingent. Composed of community members as well as members of over a dozen local Filipino organizations and associations, our contingent needs the support of our friends and allies in order to meet our fundraising goals. In the current economic crisis, it is especially important to mobilize our most vulnerable migrants and workers to these national discussions on the rights, welfare, and collective struggle of our kababayan. To achieve this, our contingent is launching this fundraiser to ensure that everyone, no matter their financial status, can mobilize to the Kalayaan summit.

Though the period for fundraising is short, our Oregon contingent to the Kalayaan Summit is united to ensure the strength of our Filipino community in Oregon is well represented at this historic gathering.
