Nolan to everyone who knows him has had to endure a condition his entire life that until just recently has now been properly diagnosed as Ipex Syndrome. Ipex Syndrome causes multiple autoimmune disorders in affected individuals, causing the body's immune system to attack the body's own tissues and organs. This is a genetic disorder that mainly affects males and was misdiagnosed at an very early age. Nolan's proper diagnosis came unfortunately from the diagnosis and genetic testing of his younger cousin Madden who is also battling this genetic disorder. Nolan will now require strong chemotherapy to kill his immune system, a bone marrow transplant, as well as a long and costly road to full recovery. The procedure is not guaranteed nor free of risks to Nolan. The drugs required are extremely costly and are not covered by provincial health care. Being a pre-existing condition, health plans will not cover the thousands of dollars in drugs per month Nolan will need for his recovery as his family is self employed. There is no timeline or guaranteee of success. To further complicate Nolan's and his family's situation, the proper diagnosis was not made until after their uprooting due to Alberta's economy which has now separated the family to complete opposite ends of the earth during his treatments. The goal of this fund is to help cover the extreme costs of his medications, treatments, and expenses associated with Nolans upcoming medical battle to which no family could afford to pay on there own.
