Help Nina with her 2016 Deductible
Donation protected
Hi! I am Cynthia, a dear friend of Nina Leggett Austin.

For those that don't know Nina underwent a double mastectomy in October 2015 in hopes of finally ending her fears of a breast cancer reccurrence. Unfortunately, that would not happen. In 2015 Nina was rediagnosed with breast cancer. Here is Nina's story:
"In April of 2008 at the age of 35 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Insitu Ductal Carcinoma i.e. Breast Cancer. After much testing I was found to have genetic markers for BRCA 2 for both breast and ovarian cancer. I had chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, ooferectomy (ovaries removed) and radiation. After about a 8-9 month journey I came out on the other side. After 6 years of test, biopsies, more scans, MRIs and worry I decided to have a double mastectomy in October of 2014 with reconstruction. After 8 months of surgeries and recovery I was ready to put all this behind me. In September 2015 I found a lump under my arm on the opposite side from my initial tumor. A biopsy revealed CANCER; Stage 3 but this was an Axillary Tumor.
Insitu Ductal Carcinoma, some would say recurrence but the reality is that it is a new cancer. After all these precautions, including mastectomy, I have cancer again. Initially, I was fine with all the test because I had had a surgery in 2015, my deductible had been met. Now it is 2016, I have new deductibles."
Nina is a traveling speech pathologist and spends a year or two in a city before moving to another one. Nina was making plans to move to Dallas, TX when this new diagnosis came. In addition to beginning treatment, Nina was settling in to a new state and dealing with all of the relocation costs that come with it. Her mother comes to be with her and take care of her as much as possible.
Nina works throughout treatment but has to miss days due to the effects of chemo and as this is the beginning of 2016 she has leftover costs from her surgery in 2015 plus an entirely new deductible to meet for 2016.
If you know Nina you know she has a heart of gold. Her most recent blog post gave me the idea that we, her friends and family, could help her meet her deductible for 2016 and help Nina to have one less worry.
I would like to gift Nina whatever money is raised for any financial need that she has. If for some reason she meets her deductible she can spend the money as she sees fit.
Every little bit helps. It is my hope that her many friends donating even $5 would help to lift Nina's burden. It is also my hope that you will come to this page to donate whenever you can. Maybe you can come and donate $20 every pay day, or skip a Starbucks trip every now and again and donate that $5 here. There is even an option to give monthly. Please pass the word so that we can meet our initial goal of $1000. It would be great to meet and even exceed that goal for Nina.
Thank you for taking the time to read Nina's story and for considering donating.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to message me thru the messaging feature on this page.
