Just graduating from high school, I was 18 when my Mom told me she saw my calling as a healer, and that I should consider attending massage therapy school as a way of developing that skill.
That thought stayed on the backburner because at the time I was on a different path.
Around age 27 I was living in southern Colorado, enthralled in the great outdoors and drove to a nearby town where I went for a memorable hike. The mysterious, mountainous and very tiny community of Crestone was a place I was seemingly drawn to, and though my spiritual interests lay dormant at the time, I listened to my intuition and followed my heart in everything I did. So, I felt and knew I'd be back to this place to live someday.

While I was there I discovered a healing arts center with a tremendously intense and VERY comprehensive massage therapy program. It completely resonated with me, and I recalled the words my mother had said. However, at the time the wheels were turning to move out to California and I didn't have the resources. With my background growing in personal training, gym management, fitness and coaching....massage therapy school once again took the backseat.
It remained on the backburner but, I knew I'd return.
I've done a lot over years now and all my successes were hard-earned. I worked tirelessly as a trainer, a professional athlete, a coach/instructor with a pioneering effort to combine fitness and stand up paddling into a practice. I was able to travel the world and share my adventures on television. I was happy helping and meeting others along the way.

Suddenly, everything fell apart. I became extremely ill, my mother died, I was injured constantly, and through my dealings with a few people who were not looking out for anything but their own best interests I lost everything I had worked for. A few years have passed now and since then I've been feeling quite lost & useless, like 'I'm off my path of purpose.'
But, I was not going to give up.
Mom was right, healing is my purpose, for myself and others. That little voice never stopped calling to me.
I never forgot the healing arts center in Colorado, even though I researched many massage schools around the country along the way, none of them seemed right (a little too clinical and impersonal) and it was never the right 'time'.
So, I gathered the little resources I had and made my way to Crestone just over a year ago.
Though I made it to Crestone, a few things got into the way of me going to massage therapy school. Coronavirus turned our world upside down along with a personal lack of financial resources to support schooling.
I became a produce manager at the local grocery store (which I was VERY lucky to obtain considering almost every single business shut down and so many lost their jobs!) I've been there for over a year now and although it's not a lucrative career, I love it and I'm grateful for it!
With everything going on this year, I had pretty much given up on ever achieving my dream of going to Crestone Healing Arts Massage Therapy School . And now over a year has gone by and I'm still not getting ahead financially. I ran into one of the founders of the school and they told me this;
"After 24 years of teaching massage, the healing arts center is most likely closing their doors and offering the VERY LAST massage therapy teaching session to take place beginning this March and we will only be accepting half of the normal amount of students, only 4-6."
Shit! As much as this message was defeating, I felt like it would be a real failure on my part to have come this far, worked so hard to get here and then miss out on the ONE thing I have waited nearly 20 years to do. I at least have to TRY!
At the moment, though, the small amount of money I make in my paycheck all goes directly to living and life expenses. Admittedly, most of the time I have less than $40 left over after paying my bills. I literally have no resources, no family and this platform feels like my last resort to get some funding.
So, I humbly come to you to ask for any kind of help you can give. Obviously, I don't like groveling and as I'm someone who appreciates earning what I have, this rates as one of the hardest things on my list to do. I have a hard time accepting kindness from others.
Below is the link to the school and the breakdown of cost. Please feel free to call the school, ask for Dan or Sue, as they are well aware of my strong desire to attend the course [phone redacted]
To be honest, I am literally intimidated (ok, scared...lol) to attend this program. It's going to be VERY challenging. The instructor is tough, school is 5-6 days per week and 9-12 hours daily of classroom in addition to home study and practice on top of that for 12 straight weeks. There is no way to have a job during this time, so I'll also have to find a way to cover my basic living expenses in order to accomplish the schooling.
Thank you all for listening and anything you can do to help me fulfill my purpose, my Mother's vision, of being a healer for myself and others.
Love to all, Nikki
