Glendale Humane Society (GHS) is a small, non-profit, No-Kill shelter. Our mission is to unite adoptable pets with loving Forever Homes. With a history of over 90 years and thousands of heartwarming adoptions, GHS continues to love, comfort, heal and safeguard each and every dog and cat that scampers through our doors, until the right family comes along to welcome one of them into their home.
Nickie is a 5 year old miniature poodle who came to GHS a year ago when his owner lost her home and was living with Nickie in her car. Nickie has immune issues that manifest in his skin and eyes- making him itchy and in need of weekly, medicated baths. His little toenails are deformed but they make the cutest tap dancing sound when he prances across the floor. Nickie recently had 7 teeth pulled and the doctors found a hole in his soft palate. When he eats, food enters this hole, causing Nickie to sneeze and deteriorating his nasal cavity.
Despite all of these health issues, Nickie is a truly happy, loving and playful dog. He enjoys the company of other dogs, dances for everyone he meets and likes to play with his toys. He’ll crate himself when he’s tuckered and he’s always happy to have a lap to sit in.
In late December, Animal Specialty Group in Glendale will be performing surgery to repair the hole in Nickie’s palate and hopefully bring him some much-needed relief. Pre-operative testing, scopes, ultrasounds, blood work and the actual surgery are estimated at $5,000.
GHS receives NO funding from local, state or federal agencies so the responsibility for sheltering, nourishing, training and caring for our pets is borne entirely by staff, volunteers, and the financial support of animal lovers like you. Please donate towards the cost of Nickie’s surgery and help us prepare him for finding his forever home.
