Hello,
My name is Nick Dial. I am 32 years of age, a husband to a loving wife, and a father to a sweet 7 year old little girl. I am a former police officer in the state of Arizona. I had to end my career after both sustaining an injury while on duty and developing poor health, which I later learned to be Chron’s Disease.

In November of 2013, I was admitted to the hospital with fever and weight loss. I was in rough shape, and struggled to recover from ongoing fevers and pain. It was there, after a colonoscopy, that I discovered I in fact was suffering from a nasty form of Chron’s Disease, for which there is no cure. Since that day, the last year and a half has been a vicious battle and revolving door as I try to stay out of the hospital and fight this disease.

From November 2013 to present day, I have been admitted 21 times for severe Chron’s flare ups. Extreme abdominal pain, bleeding, fever, weight loss, fatigue, etc…..this is not something I would wish on my worst enemy. I have averaged a 5 day hospital stay 1.7 times a month for a year straight, aka twice a month. I have logged approximately 105 days, 2, 520 hours, in the hospital for the past 12 months. I was there on Thanksgiving, my birthday, Christmas Eve 2013 and 2014, Christmas day 2013, my College graduation, my wife’s birthdays, and more. This has taken so much from my personal life and continues to do so.

In May of 2014, I developed a blood clot in my left leg. 5 days later, it migrated into both lungs causing a double pulmonary embolism almost killing me. I am lucky to have survived the whole ordeal and I thank God for allowing me to stay here on earth with my family. 4 Months after my double pulmonary embolism, in the month of September, my legs locked up and I was in excruciating pain, so much that so that I could barely move them. They end up conducting an MRI scan and found that due to the damage from the blood clot and steroids used to treat my Chrons Disease, the blood flow to my hips was cut off and my bone tissue in my hips joints were deteriorating, which in return has caused the joints to begin to collapse. The condition is known as A-vascular Necrosis of the hips, and is extremely painful. In an attempt to save my hips, they admitted me on Tuesday Morning January 20, 2015, and took a 9mm drill, coring out the center of both femur bones. This is known as Core decompression of the hips, the procedure is very much sporadic in terms of success and if it does not result in bone healing, I will have to have both hips completely replaced. At age 32, I hope to keep my hips and gain my mobility back. As for now, I am confined mainly to bed and a wheel chair.

The reason I am creating a Go Fund me account is for help in raising some money so I may remain active and productive to the best of my ability. I am a published author, digital artist, as well as do video editing and production. I try to remain busy, stay involved in the community, and do the best I can despite my condition. Before, I would use my desktop computer to type, edit, and create art, but because of my advanced condition, I rarely have access to use it anymore. I am in the hospital so often, or stuck in bed, that my desktop machine is no longer a viable option for me to keep going. When I am home, my mobility and current condition makes it very difficult to sit at my desktop as well. This month of January alone, I have logged 15 days in the hospital. That’s half a month’s worth of lost time, but if I had a decent functioning laptop, I could utilize it to stay productive and keep my mind on something positive, rather than the pain and anguish I am experiencing physically and mentally with this illness. I feel like it is super important to stay productive and positive so that I can keep moving forward. I feel that having the ability to type, edit, promote, as well as to interact with family and friends; this would be paramount to my health and overall wellbeing. This fund raising goal would allow me to stay connected with family and the community, help me unwind with art, and will most importantly help me remain productive building websites, despite the constant travel and being away from home.

The fund amount goal of $2500 is an estimate to try and get a late model laptop with appropriate software that doesn’t become obsolete quickly, and allow me enough flexibility to remain fluid. For example, a Microsoft surface pro i7, with its processing power and innovative ability to break down and be mobile, would allow me the ability to achieve these goals reasonably. Unfortunately, such machines and accompanying software can be pretty expensive, and do to the nature of my current situation, this is far outside of my financial abilities to afford, hence this goal. I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read my story, learning about who I am, and any help you may wish to contribute in order for me to reach my goal.
Thank you all,
Nick Dial
