Thank you for checking out our campaign.. The Stonawski Support Association... or A.S.S. Backwards. You may chuckle at the idea but you have to know that the whole idea behind this campaign is that bad things don't happen to good people. Faith, Karma, and Luck have all worked in reverse here, and our sole responsibility is to over turn those forces and make things right, primarily for one man, but subsequently for the hundreds (maybe thousands) of people that he affects daily.
Last year, in March 2018, Nick Stonawski was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. With the early diagnosis, he ended up going through surgery for removal at the time, and it was successful. For months following the surgery, CT scans, blood work, and physician follow-ups were kept in order to monitor his status. While Nick and his lovely wife, Jill, were well supported emotionally through this horrible endeavor they took the financial burden on themselves... and mostly Nick himself... as Jill was working only part time through nursing school.
Every doctor's appointment, CT scan, or blood work had come back great in the follow-up months... until this one. On May 8, 2019, the results of a recent CT scan and blood work have revealed ".. a large retroperitoneal/para-aortic mass.." and elevated blood tumor markers that have enlarged a lymph node in his abdomen to nearly 7 times its normal size, and in less than 7 months, when his last CT scan and blood came back "all clear".
Lets take a moment to talk about Nick:
Nick could be the nicest person you will meet. He will always find the positive in any situation and you can always count on him to make you laugh and smile. His positivity and humor is infectious. He is 100% selfless and compassionate. Nick is the absolute pillar in so many relationships and communities:
Beginning with the most important relationship... that between a husband and wife. Nick has been Jill's sole supporter both emotionally and financially in her journey through nursing school. While the continuous barrage of tuition, books, clinical days, exams, and melt-downs would frustrate some, Nick shouldered the extra stress, and carried on with exceptional grace to cover the bills, help Jill study, and take on more responsibility at home. Even during the extreme frustration that came with Nick's first bout with cancer he carried on, seemingly un-affected, and supported the love of his life through her dream. The couple has been married nearly 4 years and has planned to grow their family once Jill completed nursing school, which would be this coming month. Nick is her best friend, her rock, her hero, and her life.
Nick has a tremendous network of friends, which is where A.S.S. Backwards is mostly rooted. Nick is "that guy" that you aspire to be, and all your friends want to be around. He is genuine, caring, understanding and trustworthy. It is no mystery then.. that anyone he meets easily becomes great friends. For so many, Nick is the go-to when you are having issues with your car, dog, work, significant other, or even your child. He is always willing to be the friend that so many people wish they had, and we are all so fortunate to rely on when we need support.
Nick is also the bastion of an automotive community, not only locally, but respected nationwide - even internationally! Car enthusiasts come to Nick for guidance, quick advice, or just approval of what they are doing with their vehicles. You simply do not get that type of respect by being mediocre. Nick is exceptional at what he does in all regards.
All of us at A.S.S. Backwards know how fantastic of a human being Nick is... and hopefully we have given you enough of a glimpse to realize why we feel that THIS bad thing can not get the best of this GREAT person.
Nick's Cancer has metastasized to his lymph nodes, more specifically his left retroperitoneum, which has a tumor nearly 3 inches in length. This lymph node is located deep in the abdomen, between the pelvic cavity and the diaphragm. Nick will be facing a rigorous and intense schedule of chemotherapy in the upcoming months and will be unable to work during treatment due to the immuno-compromised and immensely fatigued state he will be enduring. With aspirations for a family in the near future, Nick and Jill will be relying on cryobanking sperm before treatment commences, as the chemo can erase any chance of children for years to come.
As you can see, the whole situation is A.S.S. Backwards, and together we can make one more great thing happen to a truly exceptional person.
With your generosity, all donations will go towards Nick's medical expenses for his upcoming cancer treatments, assuring Nick and Jill have the option of a family in the future, and help with lost wages due to treatments. Any way you can help is greatly appreciated. Let's show Nick how much we all love him, that all those years of being selfless have not gone unnoticed, and get him on that road to recovery and remission.
Thank you so much for your love and support.
