I am taking a leap of faith - literally!

To raise funds for my mother's double knee replacement surgery.

I am doing a bungee jump and need your help to make it count.

Long story short, well really short story long.....

After 15 years of asking, finally a doctor listened to my mother and realised how severe her condition was with her knees. Sadly, this meant going private via Beneden but was a relief to get someone to take her concerns on board.

Both her knees are bone on bone in addition to the osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia meaning she is unable to walk realistically…instead hobbles and staggers where possible or uses the mobility aids, I have bought her. However, the aids still required a good amount of mobility and space to use them, and the house is not big enough to accommodate them.

Even sitting or sleeping has her in severe discomfort and pain which has completely isolated her to the house and limited her too very little.

We are far beyond being able to use any short-term relief to ease her pain. The injections (there have been many) do not work anymore and physio no longer an option as she is unable to move without pain.

From the consultation we had, she has been put on a 4 to 5 year waiting list via the NHS and that is hoping that the waiting time stays on track and doesn’t extend.

To pursue the partial knee replacements (as recommended) privately, each knee starts from a staggering £14,396 which is absolutely insane!

I have been hesitant to create this Go Fund Me and have been dithering about setting it up since January. I am a strong believer in ‘Don’t ask, don’t get’ and every avenue is always worth trying. The worst that can happen is it goes nowhere, and we are exactly where we are now.

So, as I watch my mother (daily) getting older and struggling with even the most basic of movement and tasks, nothing would make me happier than if I could help her feel less pain and regain some of her freedom.

She isn’t looking to climb mountains. She just would like to be able to leave the house, go for walks, walk the dogs (the two lunatics they are) and enjoy the outside world again.

Never mind the physical impact but the mental impact it would also make.

Those who know my mother know she is a very creative, generous, intelligent and hilarious woman. If you’re lucky enough to get her talking, you can get some very funny and unbelievable stories from her that would have you splitting your sides. This is a person who should not be dimmed and restricted to the walls of her house. She has overcome so much and always given so much to both my brother and I so to be able to give her this would mean the world.

In an ideal world, the goal is to be able to get both knees replaced but that would be a staggering £30,000.00.

Even being able to get one knee replaced would make an impact.

I understand the target is a big ask and fully understand that times are tough for everyone right now, and any contribution, big or small, will mean the world to us. Your support will not only contribute to her physical well-being but will also help create cherished moments that we can all share together. I will continue to work hard and save to contribute to this fund myself, but it is always worth trying every avenue as you never know what will happen. It is better to try than not.
