HELP ME REGAIN MOBILITY TO IMPROVE MY QUALITY OF LIFE

I was born with Spina Bifida and had successful corrective surgery as an infant allowing me to live a normal childhood. For years, I was monitored regularly and everything seemed fine. However, at age 28, my life changed drastically after a recommended back surgery that went terribly wrong. This surgery led to worsening symptoms and a long painful battle with my health.

Since then, I have faced continuous physical and emotional challenges. I’ve had two more spinal surgeries, and each time, my condition deteriorated further. I now live with a progressively worsening neurological condition, making it extremely difficult to move and walk.

WHAT I NEED

Because of the challenging surgeries mentioned above and my resulting health issues, I’m reaching out to ask for your support to buy some essential equipment and pay for some home modifications that will significantly improve my mobility and quality of life. Because I don’t have these things now, I spend most of my time at home and in bed because it is difficult and unsafe to get around with only a walker for assistance.

My current scooter is second-hand, old and unreliable. I need both a lightweight scooter for indoor and moderate use and a rugged off-road scooter to explore outdoor terrains and participate in activities with my family.

I have been trying to get a wheelchair for almost a year, but insurance has denied my requests. The wheelchairs they fund are not adequate for my needs so If I’m unable to resolve this with my insurance I hope to purchase one that will help with my mobility.

My home needs some modifications for better accessibility, particularly a no-step walk-in shower with handles and other adjustments to make daily living easier.

Funds will also go towards ramps, a tow-receiver for my car, and a platform carrier. These items are necessary for transporting my scooter and other mobility aids.

WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

The equipment and home modifications I need are not covered by insurance. Without these, my ability to move freely and engage with my surroundings is severely limited. Your support will help me regain some independence and reduce my daily struggles. Everything I need, which is listed above, will cost at least $17,000. I know this is a lot of money and will be difficult to raise, but any amount will help me get started with some of the things I need to enjoy a more active life.
