First Parish Youth Service trip to NOLA

Each year, the Youth Group of First Parish, in Needham, Massachusetts, raises funds to travel somewhere we can volunteer with local organizations working to make a difference in their communities. In February 2014, our group is excited to return to New Orleans. Since we have been to New Orleans before, we have already developed strong relationships with local organizations and people there. In past years, we have contributed nearly 8,000 volunteer hours to a wide variety of social service projects and organizations, including work with a local farm, area schools, job support agencies and individual families recovering from Hurricane Katrina and its after effects. The money we raise will help with the cost of travel for our group of 15-20 youth, as well as provide the tools and supplies we need in our service projects.

Who is the First Parish in Needham Youth Group?
First Parish in Needham was founded in 1711 and became a Unitarian Universalist congregation in the late 18th Century. The Youth Group is in its 10th year and is made up of high school students from Needham and surrounding communities. The program provides both guided and unstructured opportunities for youth to connect, explore healthy personal choices, build community, and live out our organization's principles, most visibly through social justice and service work.
