The sole survivor of the recent horrific killing spree in NASHVILLE, TN. Maya's story is one of miracles. The first miracle is that she is still with us. Join us on Maya's journey to recovery and watch her create miracles with each step. Your prayers, words, thoughts and good wishes travel through the air and between the rain straight in to our hospital room. They give her strength and hope. God bless you.
Maya was shot thru the spine walking our dogs in our quiet neighborhood of EAST NASHVILLE in her pyjamas with nothing but a house key and her cell phone. Nothing was taken EXCEPT HER ABILITY TO WALK. SHE IS NOW PARALYZED. It was just so pointless. WE, just like YOU are a YOUNG COUPLE who moved to Nashville with hopes & dreams of starting a life together. Maya has already begun to take huge strides in her recovery. But it's not just her legs that she will need to overcome. Currently Maya's significant stomach trauma from a splenectomy and internal damage for the bullet is healing very well as is her broken thumb from where the bullet exited her body.
These injuries have seriously hampered her ability to begin Physical therapy but this hasn't stopped her one bit. She can move her left leg mostly just the thigh, we are working on the lower half of her left leg and foot and her right leg also. We are still working on areas of Occupational therapy as well. It is a LONG road but Maya has EVERY CHANCE to walk again. But this requires not just a lifetimes worth of strength and energy and determination it unfortunately requires A LOT of money too. We have NO IDEA what this could end up costing as Spinal Cord Injuries CANNOT be predicted. We have never been ones to ask for anything in our lives, we are always the ones giving. Now we need YOUR help in getting Maya back on her feet ASAP!!! So please give what you can, every dollar goes towards her rehab!
We would like to thank everybody who has donated thus far and to our OneRepublic family who donated over $100k. We would also like to thank Dierks Bentley and Meghan Linsey who also publicly donated. Thank you all for caring so much. Nashville is YOUR city...MUSIC city! Lets protect it for all of us who call this wonderful city home and for all those who come everyday like Maya and I did just 4 years ago.
