Dear whomever may take time to read this,
Many of you know who this wonderful puppy is; if not, this is Nala. My girlfriend, Brittaney, and I rescued this little girl when she was 5 months old from a welfare league in Chicago Ridge. She went through many days and nights of pain because while there she was treated for parvo, and had a 50% chance of living. That wasn't the only thing she had; kennel cough and worms were attacking her as well. She was on two IVs for nearly two weeks before she healed and eventually Brittaney and I took her in with loving arms. About a month later, we noticed something with her behavior and how she tended to be sensitive with her hips. Side note: if you're not familiar with German Shepherds, they are known for having hip dysplasia. We got X-rays taken and sure enough the early signs were there. The doctor said it may be because she's young and still growing but more than likely it is hip dysplasia. From then on we took extreme caution on what she did and how she did it, even to this day use hip supplements to try to counteract the effects of her hips. Fast forward to today she has gotten worse, even with rest. In news of going to the vet a year ago, they concluded that Nala indeed has hip dysplasia and the arthritis has already set in so a preventative surgery is out of the question. At this point in time, we are giving her medicine to relieve her arthritis and make her feel comfortable. The ultimate outcome of this would be a young, caring, always happy dog, slowly deteriorating throughout the years from this disease that is affecting her hips. At one year and three months old, she already started acting like she is an older dog; such as eating while laying down and sometimes not being able to jump on her favorite chair because this disease prevents such simple task. If you have a pet yourself, then you know the bond you have with them is ever lasting, but the short time they are with us is precious and unforgettable. We always strive for more time in our lives and ultimately we lose, but in the short time we do have we can make the life of a dog a little longer so she and others can enjoy her presence. Nala will need, to live a long healthy live, a full hip replacement. We are coming forth to ask and help aid our puppy. Normally we take care of these things ourselves but with the financial hardships and the cost of college, it is difficult to achieve such proper medical care. This dog is the most loving and caring dog out there and I know she has changed my life and many others. Maybe I'm asking too much of people, but with anything anyone has to offer, it will make a difference. With such a young puppy we will do whatever it takes to help this pup. We hope to achieve our goal.
Thank You
We have included a picture of Nala's X-ray on her hips, a comparison of her hips to a normal dogs' hips to show how bad they really are, and her vet information. If there are any other questions and/or concerns please let us know!
