Lakyns Alvin Ailey Ballet Intensive

Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Lakyn Hall and I am a 16 year old ballet dancer from Yuma, Arizona. I have been dancing for a whopping 13 years and performed my first stage role at the age of 4. I dance 6 days out of the week, which equals roughly 25 hours a week spent in the studio. When I was in pre-school, I was inspired to dance by my older sister (who went on to dance professionally right after high school), and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. My hard work and determination throughout the years has paid off, and has earned me scholarships to dance programs such as the International School of Dance in Jackson, Mississippi and the National Choreography Intensive in Tallahassee, Florida.

This past week, I received the most exciting email of my life - my acceptance letter to Alvin Ailey's Professional Level 6 week summer intensive starting June 27th and going all the way to August 5th! Alvin Ailey  is a modern-based company in New York City - I have only ever dreamed of dancing at Alvin Ailey and it's finally becoming a reality! Unfortunately, an amazing opportunity like this comes at a great cost, one which I can't afford on my own. In the past two years, my dad suffered through cancer and my parents separated, creating financial hardships that we never expected. However, as my mom, my dad, and my brother & sister have encouraged me, I can't let that stop me from pursuing my dreams.

To help my parents cover the cost, I have saved my own money from my 4-H and FFA projects raising market swine, but that only covers a fraction of the cost.

The budget for attending this prestigous school is as follows:
$3,020 - Housing at Fordham University
$2,835 - Tuition & Physical Therapy Fee
$1,600 - Food/Meals
$400 - Round Trip Airfare from Phoenix to Newark
TOTAL AMOUNT OF PROGRAM: $7,855

Going to New York is a once in a lifetime experience for me, and I am beyond excited that I have made it this far! I know that dancing professionally is a career I want to pursue, and any amount you can invest in me would be very much appreciated. My timeline is pretty short - all money is due no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 13th. If you would be willing to invest in this little Yuma girl to go out and represent our community, I promise I will make you so proud! I will also keep a blog to let everyone know of my progress while I'm there. You'll be able to see your money hard at work!

Thank you for your generosity and your support! Wish me luck as I strive to become all that I am capable of being!

With the greatest appreciation,
Lakyn Nicole Hall
