New Millennium Academy Chicago Trip

Do you remember the first time you were able to connect something you’d learned in school to the real world? As an educator, I love creating opportunities where students can make those connections. With that in mind, I have chosen to lead a group of 7th and 8th grade students on an educational trip to Chicago this June. The experiences they will have while traveling are ones they will take with them into high school, college, and beyond.
Students will have the opportunity to stay in the heart of downtown Chicago, and will explore the history and culture of this great Midwest city. In one student’s words: “If I get the opportunity to go to Chicago, I look forward to being around a diverse culture, doing educational activities, exploring the city with my school, visiting Millennium Park and going to various tours such as the “Chicago Architecture Boat Tour.” Just looking at the photos makes me excited. I think it’s so cool how you’d get on a boat tour and see the beautiful city.”
New Millennium Academy is a K-8 charter school in North Minneapolis that serves a high English language learner (ELL) population. Additionally, more than 80% of New Millennium Academy students qualify for free or a reduced price lunch. The average income of families we serve is $27,000 per year. To help their parents out, our students want to fundraise the entire cost of the trip. They have been working hard all year and your contribution will bring them even closer to this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our collective goal is to raise $700 for each of the 33 students. The total cost of this trip is $23,100. We greatly appreciate any amount you are able to contribute. Every gift of $25, $50, $100, or more will help us reach our goal!
