My name is Ariel Abergel, and I'm a high school junior at the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester. Besides continuing to perform this past year, I wrote my first short play, When They Dimmed The Lights, which recieved the grand prize at the Palace Theatre in Stamford, CT, for its annual Emerging Young Artists competition. I also preside over Schechter's Culture Club, which is dedicated to preserving and building a broad appreciation for the arts within our community through monthly outings and events.
As an aspring theatrical producer, I have decided that I wanted to get my own project on its feet, and spend my summer creating.
After much effort, and lots of pursuading, I am so excited and grateful to announce that I'll be spending the next two months producing Chaim Potok & Aaron Posner's My Name is Asher Lev at the Eric Brown Theatre, located at the JCC on the Palisades. As of now, we are calling ourselves "Palisades Players SummerStage".
Set in post-war Brooklyn, My Name is Asher Lev tells the story of a hasidic boy prodigy who must be a painter at any cost - against the will of family, faith, and tradition.
Now that we have a play and a theatre, Deb Roberts (Artistic Director, JCC) and I have begun the casting proccess, and we are in the midst of searching for a director.
If there's one thing that i've already learned, it's that putting on a show is not cheap. That's where you come in! Although my GoFundMe goal is set at $3,000, I'm hoping to raise at least $6,000 in the next few weeks, in a variety of ways. Your generosity will go towards the following:
- A Director - estimated will cost us at least $1,500
- Scenery
-Lighting Design
- Marketing
- Actors - our ability to pay our actors depends on how much we raise, and weather or not we hire AEA actors.
-Acquiring the rights of the play
Performances:
Thursday, August 25 - Invited dress rehearsal
Saturday, August 27 at 9PM
Sunday, August 28 at 2PM
Monday, August 29 at 7:30PM
Thank you so much in advance for supporting me but more importantly, for supporting live theatre.
All the best,
Ariel
