Saving Bear
Donation protected

Bear is a beautiful 4 year old German Shepherd. He was rescued from a puppy mill at two 1/2 months of age, weak and in very poor health.
During the next several months with proper care, medical attention, and tons of love from a retired Veteran and his daughter, Bear was able to regain his health and grow into a rambunctious happy adolescent with tons of energy and a friendly, loving nature.
I adopted Bear when he was 7 months old and we have pretty much been constant companions since that day. Being self-employed has allowed Bear to go to work with me daily, spend his days rollicking on my job sites and making new friends everywhere he goes.
He has flourished greatly by home cooked freshly prepared meals, and a special platform bed that I built into the seat of my pickup truck so that even when I have to go about my non-dog friendly business or errands, he can still be with me and wait to get onto our next adventure in comfort and style.
We always vacation together, and have managed to find a few friendly spots (including cafes!) that allow dogs access. Bear is always greeted with freshly prepared bacon and dog treats by his friends, waiting for him every season, and they seem to anticipate his arriving as much as he does.
Recently Bear got very sick, lethargic, and within days started losing weight rapidly. He was initially diagnosed with a red blood cell count so low that an emergency blood transfusion was needed within hours of our first Vet visit in order to stabilize him, and to continue on with the testing needed to diagnose his illness.
After two weeks and two different veterinarians and animal hospitals, countless blood-work, xrays, and medicines, he has been stabilized temporarily but has now been referred to another animal specialist that we hope to see in the upcoming week.
We have been able so far to rule out some basic health issues that he is not currently presenting with including; tick-born diseases, worms, etc. However, at our last check-up his red cells remain non-regenerative and Bear will need to continue the good fight.
We have already exhausted all possible finances that I had during these first weeks just to stabilize Bear.
Unfortunately, along with everyone else in the world, my work, income and life have all been deeply affected during this time by COVID-19.
Bear urgently needs further, more specialized medical attention, including bone marrow tests among other diagnostics - just to get to the bottom of his diagnosis and regroup.
He may also need another blood transfusion in the upcoming week to stabilize him again, and allow for further exams and more intricate testing.
Any assistance at this time, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated to help Bear through the upcoming weeks.
I know everyone is suffering during this challenging time, and am very thankful for the time you may take to read through our story.
Thank you, and my best wishes to all of you and your families to stay well and strong.
