My Sister Nancy Displaced after Home Caught Fire
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Aaron Wilson and I am raising funds for my sister who has recently lost her home in a house fire. I included some words below directly from her:
My name is Nancy D-M. My home for the past 13 years, caught on fire, starting at the wood stove on the evening of January 24, 2023. As a result, I am now displaced and have lost almost everything I own. The cost of weekly hotel rates is depleting me financially, faster than I am prepared to handle. I need to get into an apartment, rental home, or purchase a home.
Emotionally and physically, I am exhausted. I don't know what else to do, I am reaching out for help. I am not a lavish woman and at this rate, I will soon not be able to afford the costs to move into an apartment or home, car maintenance, newly acquired storage bill for the very few things I am attempting to salvage and other necessary essentials.
At this time, I have reached out to the local organizations. The Red Cross showed up the evening of the fire, they provided $500 for a hotel (1 week) and replaced my medications and nebulizer. So grateful for the immediate help. The other local organizations would/could not help me in any type of way, not even a Blessing Bucket, because the burning of my house and all I own is not considered "a natural disaster/ or a crisis, in their context of "Crisis Relief".
The Omega Psi Phi fraternity came from different cities and states to help with clean up. In a day, these young men cleared the debris from inside and outside the home, disposed of the debris that used to be my belongings and helped me get the few items I hope to be salvageable into a storage unit. They moved my faith needle in the process.
I miss my little dog: Baby is her name. A laid-back, little chihuahua/ poodle mix who for the last 13 years has been more than a friend, she has been my reason to push through difficult times. She depends on me for her care.
I have thoroughly assessed my situation and cannot, as I have done in the past, allow my pride to stop me from reaching out for help. I don't know what else to say. Please help, every little bit increases my chance to get up before I get dragged under.
