Mutual Aid for Macey

Hi everyone.

I’m writing this on behalf of Macey. For a year Macey has been such a supporter of this community. Not only has she personally helped and supported numerous people, but her help has been instrumental in setting up several community events for several different organizers, and for harm reduction.

Macey does A LOT for the community, but unfortunately, despite actively looking and applying, has not been able to find a job. Because of this, there has been stunted efforts to further pursue her transition or gender affirming healthcare. All of this, combined with the stress of living in precarious housing has exacerbated her pre-existing mental health conditions.

As many of you know, Macey was brutally attacked in the morning hours of Thursday May 8th. While luckily, physically, she was left only bruised, mentally, she has been shaken. The police are classifying and investigating this incident as a hate crime, although the perpetrators have still not been found.

We are asking for $500 outright to help pay for emergency costs, including food, and paying for therapy for the next 6 months (her therapist is low cost, so this should cover bi-weekly sessions). Right now, Macey is on ODSP and this incident seriously disrupted not just her ability to look for a job, but also her ability to simply exist. $500 should get her into a more stabilized place.

The next thing is we will be doing a fundraiser organized by Sappho.XD to pay for her to be able to access healthcare not covered under the government, including fertility related things, and laser hair removal at some point over the summer. This fundraiser was always planned, but after the attack we have to focus on stabilization before we can focus on healthcare.
