Mr. Wigglebottoms Needs an MRI

My passion is saving kitties that are a little different that need a little extra love. My most current rescue is Mr. Wigglebottoms. He had a preliminary diagnosis in January of cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) from our normal vet in town. CH is a benign congenital brain disorder that causes ataxia and a wiggly gait, a few of his symptoms.
Fast forward a few months we take him to the local neurologist for a formal diagnosis. They gave us a terrible differential diagnosis. Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). FIP is the scariest diagnosis you can get. FIP is 100% fatal unless treated with the experimental neucleoside analog (antiviral) medication. However, I don't believe that's his condition at all. I've seen FIP attack and it leaves cats in pure ruins, never does it leave an active kitty with no weight loss.

I emailed the professor at U C Davis who's whole life/ job revolves around the treatment and diagnosis of FIP. He has doubts as listed in his email (Niels Pedersen) that Mr. Wigglebottoms has FIP. I feel we can safely rule out FIP. That still leaves many many many fatal possibilities.

I got a referral to a new neurologist that's a couple hours away, in a neighboring state. Our appointment is on September 8th, at Nashville Veterinary Specialists. I walked them through our journey so far and they thought the next step would be a full neurological exam. They quoted me approx $3k, that in includes an MRI and a spinal tap. It doesn't include the $150 physical exam. I can provide any other info if you contact us.
