On March 1, 2020, our son Martin Perez was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, California from the Joker Run off-roading event near I-5, where one of his Jeep’s struts broke causing the jeep to flip several times. Martin sustained a spinal cord injury causing him to be paralyzed from his waist down. He was in ICU and rehabilitation for several months.
Martin is a joyful, tenacious 30-year-old single father of two… Jordan, 8 and Breanna, 12. Before his accident, he was a self-employed truck driver, but his dream was to serve in law enforcement. He was a very active, determined and hardworking young man, who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need.
He continues inspiring all those around him with his iron-clad determination and motivation of regaining his mobility and life back.
We believe firmly that God has a great plan and purpose for Martin, had that not been true, he would not be with us now, blessing us with his funny personality and great sense of humor.
Despite the many challenges, Martin has not lost his “never give up, overcomer attitude” and is determined to walk again. His unshakeable quest to regain as much mobility as possible has led us to ask of your support in covering his physical therapy costs, various medical expenses and supplies that are not covered by insurance.
"Pain is inevitable, Suffering is Optional"
Martin attends physical therapy five days a week at Spinal Cord Injury Functional Integrated Therapy (SCI-FIT). This center specializes in non traditional spinal cord injury rehabiliation. It has been a perfect fit for patients like Martin who are willing and courageous to step out of their limitations and work hard toward their goals. Martin is unrelenting....he achieved his monthly goal in the first week of therapy and continues to have exponential progress. Every week we stand in awe at the unbelievable progress he is making.
Our Current Goal:
Currently the greatest need is covering physical therapy costs. Our current goal is to cover the cost of physical therapy for a full year. The monthly cost of physical therapy alone is $1,680. The yearly cost is $20,160. There are other needs such as paying for medical expenses and supplies and a handicap vehicle, but just covering the cost of physical therapy is more than we can ask.
