My name is Mo and I am 21 years old. There are many internal and external factors that have prompted me to start this fund for myself. Holistically, it is difficult for me to encapsulate the entirety of what I have been through, but I share these personal adversities with you, not to be pitied, but to be understood. I have created this GoFundMe in an attempt to better my livelihood from what it currently is because I know that I deserve to feel at peace. I’m hoping to make efforts to better my own life, so in order to do that, I need the financial assistance that will allow me a foundation to build upon.

In June of 2018, I finished my first year of college in San Jose but withdrew my enrollment due to unforeseen circumstances. Soon after this, my father and I were left homeless because of his ex-wife’s decision to keep our home. I was stuck in the Bay without a place to go for the summer while my father stayed in a veteran’s home in Los Angeles while working to get us a place to stay. My best friend offered me a place to stay for the summer until I could find stable housing, I accepted, but since then I have been in-between homes.



For the past two years, I have not known a peaceful living situation. I suffer from mental illness, and it’s been extremely difficult for me to keep head above water in environments that I find mentally damaging and overall toxic for me to be in.



In addition to my adverse living circumstances, the pandemic has greatly impacted my ability to find work, though I have been immensely trying. I love art and gaming, so I attempt to do commissions on the side, but it is overall not enough to adequately support myself. I have not qualified for government assistance, so at this point, I am truly left with little to no financial support or stability.



However, all of this is has led me up to now, where I finally have an opportunity to break away from issues that are deteriorating my health. I am seeking housing across the country with my cousin in Washington who is a nurse that is able to provide me with the support I need in order to become fully independent. I just need to get to her. My goal is to be moved in our new apartment by September 18th.



Moving, in general, is a very expensive endeavor, especially when doing it alone, so I really need all the help I can get so that I can finally break free from this cycle of housing insecurity and flourish in a healthy environment. I plan on going back to school and continuing to pursue the hobbies I love: art and gaming.
