Our Family Story
Welcome to my son and I family fundraiser to raise the funds needed to obtain a reliable vehicle to get both my son and I to our medical appointments. This would help us not to keep rescheduling appointments due to medical transportation being unable to provide across state line or friends who plans change to get us there. The vehicle would help get us to and from emergency room visits and not depend on others for rides.
My name is Bernard I am 61 years old disabled divorced father raising my son age 13 since 2016 who became diabetic in 2022. My son had about 10 unresponsiveness in 2023 in the 3rd grade at school and was rushed to emergency rooms. He was admitted twice at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh and had couple EEG’s that had a negative test result since they didn't last long enough for the test.
My son had an unresponsiveness again last month 09/2026 at school after a belly pain. The emergency room in St Clairsville referred him to have an EEG and testing on seizures in Morgantown, WV with 1st appointment was on Oct 15th,2026. They scheduled a new EEG to be done on November 10th, 2026; to try rule out epilepsy. The unresponsiveness lasted about an hour before he could start talking and coming alert at the hospital.
They never found out what causes them from all the EEG test they performed on him back in 2023 in the 3rd grade due to thy didn't last long enough for to be tested back then. They seem to be getting worse and lasting longer now than when he was in the 3rd grade.
Medical
I myself have ongoing medical issues since I been in my late 20’s and ended on disability in 2018. I now have been diagnosed with high-grade esophageal dysplasia pre-cancer that has a high risk of progression to invasive adenocarcinoma in May 2026 and had to go through surgery to endoscopic resection, radio frequency ablation and cryotherapy on July 23rd,2026 and had a second treatment on September 19th, 2026. The next option will be another surgery, which involves removing the damaged part of my esophagus and attaching the remaining portion to my stomach on December 22nd, 2026. We had me go for a couple hours away to Morgantown, WV at WUV hospital only place doctor trained to perform this surgery in my area.
How Donations Being Used
The funds being raised will all go towards the cost to obtain a reliable used vehicle for appointments from the cost of the vehicle, state and county taxes, title change and start of full coverage insurance.
I don’t have family who can help me cause most of my close family has passed on, so any help anyone can provide will be grateful appreciated for my necessary need for permanent transportation.
What We Have Faced
- Medical travel
- Reliable support
- Ongoing needs
What our family has faced due to transportation issues since 2012.
I had a walk 1 to 3 miles at times to go to an emergency room or doctor office for my child or myself due to appointment and medical needs. There were no city buses or medical transportation available in the town where we were living at that time. Now our insurance provider will cross state line to appointments for policy changes in Jan 2026.
When we’re able to find a new apartment within our low limited income that we could afford the town we live in now has no city buses and no local taxis within our town and one 17 miles away and their fares are outside our income limits with so many appointments each month.
Insurance medical transportation plan we are on limits us to 30 round trips a year within Ohio only and will not cross the state line 17 miles away or anywhere else since Jan 2026 due to changes in their policy and coverage.
Our Limited Income Issues
I don’t get enough income to save for a vehicle; it’s so limited to try to live on at $994.00 a month on disability.
