My name is Andrew Morken. I am a 24 year old from Fort Wayne, Indiana in my second year of priestly formation at Saint Mary Seminary & Graduate School of Theology in Cleveland, OH where I am studying pre-theology. Pre-theology consists of a variety of philosophy courses to establish a foundation for my theology studies in the near future.
I am discerning priesthood with the Capuchin Franciscans of the Saint Augustine Province. Our order is focused on serving the poor and most vulnerable in our society - following the footsteps of Saint Francis of Assisi. We are also missionaries and are stationed in several countries around the world including Papua New Guinea and Puerto Rico. My hope is to one day travel to these countries and help evangelize my brothers and sisters around the world.
When I was in second grade, I first felt the call to priesthood. I spent lots of time outside in prayer and pretending I was a priest saying Mass. As I got older, I always thought the priesthood was the best job in the world, but laughed when I felt a tap on the shoulder from God. I thought that there was no way I could give up a wife and kids. With God's grace, He has shown me that all I need in my life is Christ. My family will be my Franciscan brothers and the people I serve!
God is so good in calling me, an unworthy sinner. In the Jubilee Year of Mercy, I felt the mercy of God in a profound way and responded to His call to come and see. We live in a world that is very focused on money, success, and selfish desire. As a Franciscan priest, I hope to be a witness to the light that is Jesus Christ. We have been placed here on this earth to love and serve one another.
I will sacrifice my life for Jesus, because He has given His life for me. Our world is in desperate need of the Truth.
I ask for your generous support as I continue my walk with Christ. Last August, I was able to cover my fall tuition because of the overwhelming generosity of donors such as yourself. I cannot express how thankful I am to be supported by such great family, friends, and community who have encouraged my vocation through prayer and financial support. I pray for all those who support me every day specifically through the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
I ask that you please pray for me and all of our seminarians who are responding to this call from our Heavenly Father.
