Help With Gender Affirmation Surgery

Hello everyone, it’s me, Morgan. I may or may not have personally come out to you so if you do not already know I identify as non-binary and go by they/them and masculine pronouns. ️⚧️

I have been in the process of making my gender affirmation surgery a reality since last year. Which hasn’t been easy but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I finally got a surgery date for 5/13/24.
There are two big costs that I’m worried about. First is the surgery itself, I’m not sure if my insurance is going to cover it. Although NYS has mandated that gender affirming care is covered under medically necessary care, my insurance provider does not cover *any* doctors that preform this surgery. And I cannot apply for an exemption until 2 months prior to the surgery which to say the least is cutting it close.
Secondly, is that after the surgery, I will need to recover for 3 weeks in NYC. As NYC is the only place in the state with surgeons that preform this surgery, and I will need to stay close to the hospital in the event of complications. And as we all know NYC is horribly expensive.
The AirBnB alone was over $5000 total, a little more than half due upfront for booking.
Currently I have my fundraising goal set to $5000 to help cover the cost of staying in NYC. I also plan to apply for Point of Pride’s surgery fund but this does not open for applications until October, takes about 4-6 weeks at the end of October to review, and is highly competitive. So any and all help either via your monetary contribution and/or spreading the word to others to help fundraise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and again, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Much Love,
Morgan
