Monday Ameh’s Open-Heart Surgery

Written by Emmanuel Abutu: On October 4th, my friend and brother, Monday Ameh, was unexpectedly diagnosed with subacute infective endocarditis, a heart condition that results in an infection in the lining or valve of the heart. In many cases, this condition can be treated with strong antibiotics. In extreme cases such as Monday’s however, open-heart surgery is required to drain infected abscess and/or replace a valve. Due to the technical expertise required to perform the surgery, it is planned to take place in a cardiology centre in Lagos, Nigeria with a specialized cardiologist from India. The expected cost of the surgery is about 25,000 US dollars (10 million Naira). This GoFundMe account is for anyone interested in contributing to the Ameh family’s mountain of upcoming medical and travel-related expenses. All donations will go directly to Monday’s upcoming medical expenses to treat his heart condition, which has greatly sidelined him. Your prayers for a successful surgery and strength for his family are greatly appreciated.
