Mother's Healing Journey

My name is Chris. I am setting this account up for my loving mother. I love her so much. Mom is a southern bell from Alabama, she was raised on a farm in a time where the most important things in life were the least valuable. Instilled into her was a very industrious nature, loyalty for family and those she loved, the ability to be nurturing , dependable, organized, and an inner strength that I have rarely seen anyone match. At times I wonder how a heart as large as hers can fit in such a petite package. I've also wondered how someone so small in stature could be a pillar of strength in our family. Mom would babysit for my sister and get the grandchildren to fall in line like a marching band haha, they would ignore me and give me fits! I would be happy if I can be half the person she is. I watched her always be there for family and friends, sometimes supporting with her money or time, other times with a prayer or a listening ear. The other portion of her life was dedicated to god. As a devout Christian, she attends service meetings twice a week.
This isn't the mother that I am used to. Her weight has dropped form 150 Lbs to 110 , I can see the skin clinging to the bones in her neck. She struggles to get out of bed every morning, but also knows that to lie down would be giving in to her illness and she is to tough to quit! After all, she is worried about everyone else, especially her grand and great grandchildren. The will to live is still there and I know that she will go until she cannot go anymore. Currently, she is enrolled in Aquatic therapy at Pivot (7501 Penn Ave Suite 3) where she tries to strengthen her weakened body. Mom had a spinal injury at the C3 vertebrae level which has turned into a progressive, rare, inflammatory condition called Myelomalacia. This debilitating condition has affected her heart, lungs, and diaphragm. Paralysis of the diaphragm will soon make it impossible for her to breathe. Telling her the prognosis for this disease was one of the hardest things that I ever had to do. The need for treatment is immediate and dire. She needs to receive mesenchymal stem cell therapy. These treatments are expensive and are not currently covered by insurance. The treatment has been proven to stop the inflammatory process and regenerate new nerve tissue thus, drastically improving the patients condition. This therapy might save her life, please donate anything you can.
