With heavy hearts, we’re reaching out to share some difficult news.
In just 90 days, Mike & Lois’s Late Night Grill will close the doors of our flagship Adams Morgan location — the cloud kitchen space we’ve proudly called home for over five years.
What began as a humble, late-night dream built from scratch right here in Washington, DC, turned into something much more than a restaurant. It became a haven for night owls, food lovers, and neighbors in need of a hot meal and a friendly face. Through it all — from long nights to the harshest stretches of the COVID-19 pandemic — we kept going, thanks to the love and loyalty of this incredible community.
Operating with little outside support, our Executive Director served as our only staff member, wearing every hat — line cook, dishwasher, cashier, and more. For him, this wasn’t just a passion project — it was his livelihood. And now, with the closing of Mike & Lois’s, that income will be gone. Sammi gave almost every dollar he earned, and put it back into the restaurant so we can grow.
We know this space meant a lot to many of you. The late-night burgers. The shared stories over takeout containers. The warm meals that became comfort in difficult times. We are endlessly grateful for every memory, every conversation, and every meal shared with you.
As we prepare to wind down our operations, we’re asking for your support — not just to help us cover closing costs with dignity, but to honor the effort and soul that went into keeping this kitchen alive for five unforgettable years. Your donation will go directly toward:
- Supporting our Executive Director during this transition. Sammi has put everything into this location, and unfortunately, he will have nothing when we close. Sammi is missing 4-teeth, and will likely have difficulty finding an additional job.
- Closing costs and debt from operations
- Preserving the legacy of Mike & Lois’s for future community-driven food projects
- Finish the development of our Community Mental Health Clinic. Create a Drop-in Center for At-Risk Young Adults.
We may be closing, but the spirit of Mike & Lois’s isn’t going away. With your help, we’ll carry it forward into whatever comes next.
