Mithiladhisa Prabhu's Memorial Fund

We are saddened and aggrieved to have lost our very dear godbrother, Mithiladhisa Prabhu, who left this world on April 25th, 2018.  While his departure was certainly marked by the auspicious signs of a great devotee's passing, his wife, RadhaGokulananda dasi and his daughter, Radhika Carana dasi, are left with the many expenses that necessarily accompany such a sad experience. We relate the events herein so that you may know more about Mithiladhisa's auspicious passing and feel moved to contribute some aid to his wonderful family.

Mithiladhisa had suffered disabling back pain for many years due to herniated discs in his lower back. He was known to have worked long hours and neglect his body in the service of his gurudeva when he was young, so his bad health was born from those years of service and sacrifice. Mithiladisha had also been suffering with advancing diabetes over the last several years. But over the last months, and especially over the last few weeks of his life, his back pain became so severe that he had to be rushed to the emergency room by ambulance because he simply could not move. The doctors gave him pain medication and scheduled him for back surgery, but the wait for surgery was up to two weeks.  He returned home, but within days he was again rushed to the emergency room, where they gave him even stronger pain killers and muscle relaxers. Although Mithiladhisa had almost never taken allopathic drugs, his acute pain rendered him desperate and resigned to that option.

On April 20th, Mithiladisha suddenly stopped breathing and his heart stopped. Paramedics arrived and revived him after 15 minutes. As soon as they were able to get a heartbeat, he was rushed to the hospital, but his heart stopped 3 more times before they were able to stabilize him. He remained in the ICU until tests determined that he was not going to survive without life support, and so his family made the very painful decision of choosing an auspicious time to let him go. He moved on peacefully to the loving embrace of his dear spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, at 6:45 am on Mohini Ekadasi, within the 108th hour from the time his heart first stopped.

Prior to these recent events, the combined income of Mithiladhisa and Radha had been just enough to cover their rent and essential living expenses based on their humble devotional lifestyle. However, due to the level of Mithiladhisa's distress over the last month of his life, Radha was unable to go to work,  as she was caring for Mithiladhisa day and night. He had had great difficulty sleeping adequately for many years, and this condition only worsened in recent months due to his intolerable pain, forcing him to move his bed permanently into their living room because he couldn't go up the stairs.

So, this is a time of compounded duress for the loved ones he leaves behind. They have to bear cremation expenses ($1300), lost income over the last few and upcoming months (possibly longer), as well as having rent ($950/month) due within the next few days. And there will surely be substantial other expenses (Radha has not received any hospital bills yet) that will soon arise as his family faces the difficulty of living without him. The Eugene Sanga of devotees will continue to support his family with as much love and financial help as we are able, but we humbly ask you for some assistance. With folded hands and grateful hearts, we entreat all the devotees who knew and loved Mithiladhisa Prabhu as the very sincere disciple of Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and beloved siksa disciple of Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja that he was, to please give whatever you are able.
Any donation, however small, will be appreciated.
Thank you. Hare Krsna!
