Peru Medical Mission Trip
Myself, along with a group of 10 other MIssouri State University students in the Pre-Med Society, have the opportunity to provide medical support to Huancayo, Peru. We have teamed up with FIMRC, Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children, to travel in March to volunteer at their rural hospital.
FIMRC has been sending volunteers throughout the world since their beginnings in 2002. The FIMRC team includes over 3,000 dedicated staff and volunteers worldwide who provide the leadership and support necessary to achieve our mission of improving access to health care for children in underserved communities.
Peru’s medical facilities are critically understaffed and underfunded, and many medical establishments struggle to provide even basic medical care to the people they serve. The hospitals are overburdened with patients, many of whom have illnesses preventable by basic hygiene and healthy living practices.
Along with the volunteer work, we wish to raise enough money to help cover the cost of the trip. The amount per student is $3,000 and the total cost for our group is $33,000. This would be covering airfare, food, lodging, in-country expenses, immunizations, and exit fees from the country. If we reach our goal, the extra money will go to supporting the hospital in Huancayo. We will use the money to carry on extra bags full of basic over-the-counter medicine and simple hygiene tools.
Whether it be $1 or $100, your support will not go unnoticed. We will be starting an Instagram page to post our journey after the first of the year and we invite every donor to follow us. We will also be making donor shirts and for everyone who donates $100 or more, will have their name or business on our backs in Peru.
