We found out early in the pregnancy that Emily Elizabeth, my granddaughter, has Down Syndrome. During the pregnancy there were some issues related to her condition, but it was thought that these would not be serious at birth. She was born on July 6, 2015, 3 weeks earlier than her scheduled due date because of the health issues in utero that were causing physical stress to both the baby and her mother. Since Emily’s birth, she has had several health problems and has already spent more days in the hospital than at home undergoing multiple tests and procedures. She has problems with ingesting her formula by mouth so a feeding tube was inserted into her stomach so that she can receive the needed nutrition in order to become strong. Her biggest problem at this time is her heart condition for which she will have to undergo heart surgery in the very near future.
Emily had been home for almost a week this time, but as of tonight she was again taken back to the hospital due to breathing problems and admitted into CVICU. Her previous stays in the hospital have already caused her parents a financial hardship due to their being unable to work in order to stay with her and to also attend to their other two young children at home. Obviously more trips back to the hospital and the upcoming surgery, which should happen in the next month, is incurring further hospital expenses, and with the unpaid time away from work for her parents to care for their child, the financial stress is great. Many of our friends and family have asked “how can I help?” So we have set up this account so anyone who would like to help can contribute to the many expenses that have already been incurred and those that are forthcoming.
We thank you for your continuous thoughts and prayers for Emily and her family. She is precious gift from God and we are so thankful for this beautiful gift. Thank you for your continued support of the entire family as they continue to face the daily challenges that are ahead of them.
