Hi everyone! I'm so excited to share some amazing news with you all. I'm Kennedy Roberts, a junior at Nikola Tesla Stem High School and a proud Washingtonian. Guess what? I've been selected as an official contestant for the Miss HBCU Junior Teen Scholarship! This is such a huge honor and opportunity for me, and I can't wait to tell you more about it.
The Miss HBCU Junior Teen Scholarship is a national competition that celebrates the achievements, talents, and leadership of high school students who aspire to attend historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). I'm one of the many outstanding students who applied from across the country, and I'm thrilled to be representing my state and my school.
As a high school junior, I've been involved in many activities that have shaped me as a leader and a learner. I'm a member of the school's equity board, where we work to promote diversity, inclusion, and social justice in our community. I'm also part of the Future Business Leaders Association, where I've learned valuable skills and knowledge about entrepreneurship and management. I helped my family launch our own black and women-owned small business, which has been a rewarding and challenging experience.
One of the highlights of my high school journey was participating in the Life Enrichment Groups HBCU East Coast college tour in 2023. I got to visit some of the most prestigious and historic HBCUs in the country, such as Howard University, Virginia State University, and Hampton University. I also completed the UNCF portfolio project, where I created a portfolio for college admission and learned how to prepare for college transition. These experiences have inspired me to pursue higher education at an HBCU and follow my dreams.
Besides academics and extracurriculars, I also love giving back to my community. I've volunteered with several organizations that empower women, support black culture, and help people in need. Some of these organizations are Women of Worth, Africatown, and Hopelink. I believe that service is an important way to make a positive impact in the world and show gratitude for what I have.
I'm so grateful for this opportunity to compete for the Miss HBCU Junior Teen Scholarship in March 2024. I hope to showcase my personality, passion, and potential on the national stage. I also hope to inspire other young people to pursue their goals and celebrate their heritage.
Exposure such as this will award participants the opportunity to receive scholarships for college, training in leadership, public speaking, and civic engagement, and the opportunity to become a spokeswoman for girls of color across the United States. I hope to become a public advocate for a worthy empowerment program and a positive reflection of the talent and wisdom we have in our community’s youth. To compete in the pageant there is a sponsorship fee of $2,500 and other related costs that I hope as a prospective sponsor, you will be able to financially support to alleviate all or a portion of the sponsorship fee.
The sponsorship you provide helps the Miss HBCU Teen organization provide industry professional training, gifts, production, and over $10,000 in scholarships for the title holders’ education at their future HBCU – and in a few months, that title holder could be me!
Additionally, this is an amazing opportunity to receive recognition as a Miss HBCU Teen® pageant sponsor on a website, social media platforms, video commercials, and program ad pages.
Sponsorship can be deductible as a business advertising expense or a yearly charitable tax deduction.
Thank you very much for your support,
Kennedy Roberts
