For my 'belated' 50th Birthday, the best present I could ask for is to visit my animal friends and their human angels at the Montego Bay Animal Haven Jamaica, a special place very close to my heart. I will be visiting there in January of 2025, and hope to volunteer some of my time, assisting in whatever way I can, and if possible, bring much-needed supplies AND funds to help this amazing animal sanctuary on the Island!

For those who don't already know, ten years ago we met our special Boi, Lucas, while volunteering with the 'Potcakes', or stray 'street dogs' of Jamaica. We were an instant family, and we eventually adopted and brought him back to Canada. But his amazing story didn't end there. Before the Haven found him, he had not been treated with kindness. His body was mangled, covered in mange and he had many complicated fractures from physical trauma. Because of the compassion and generosity of our friends, family and people around the world we had never even met, as well as the willingness and skill of a dedicated surgical and rehabilitative team, we raised enough funds for his orthopedic surgeries, treatments and rehab. Lucas fully healed, going on to live his best and fullest life, until he passed away at 10 years-young earlier this year. Handsome & charming, snuggly & loveably quirky, with hypnotizingly beautiful beady shepherd eyes & soft husky-like blonde fur, he was a true testament of how a second chance can change a life forever - both his life, AND ours! We're still trying to cope with the devastation of losing our 'Lulu', 'babydog' or 'Lucaloo' (as some of his many affectionate nicknames were), and life will never be the same without him. But we're so thankful we shared our time on earth together, forever changing the course of our lives, strengthening our passion, commitment and resolve to rescue, rehab and rehome, to be a voice for the voiceless, believe in second chances, and NEVER give up hope! We're so very grateful to the animal angels from the MBAH, like Tammy and Shelly, who rescued Lucas from out of that ditch, cared for his little broken body, and never gave up on him!

So in memory of Lucas, it would mean so much to me to see his story & message come full circle, by helping his little friends back home have their second chance as well! Please help me give back to this phenominal animal rescue organization and cause that I wholeheartedly believe in...

For me, this would be a truly unforgettable way to celebrate my Birthday!
