Malcolm was born exactly on his due date, June 17, 2014. My water broke at hospital during stress test and I went into labor naturally. It started going quickly, I spiked a fever, but there seemed to be no evidence of a problem until the last half hour or so of labor.

Our baby was born not breathing and then had to be resuscitated. Apparently it was an "unidentified bacteria" that infected my placenta and umbilical cord.. Later a clot was found in cord.

Malcolm was taken immediately to the NICU to go under a cool cap to prevent further damage to brain. He had a few seizures after birth and stayed in a coma-like state for 4 days. He went home after 5 weeks with a g-tube because he lost his suck reflex due to brain damage.

We still don't know how much this brain injury will affect him, but so far he is still very weak and 100% g-tube fed. We had physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy last year, but now have only about 10% of the therapy we had because insurance deductible is too high.

Besides therapy costs, there are alternative therapies to try (not covered by insurance), special needs equipment is super expensive, and doctor bills are insane.

I never do this sort of thing, but I want to do everything I can to help give him the best quality of life. Thanks.
