After several months, antibiotics, and finally a biopsy, Mindy was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in January of 2014, just six months before her and Trevor's wedding date. Hodgkins wasn't about to slow Mindy down. She continued to work full time (a Registered Nurse, Firefighter, EMT, wife, sister, aunt, daughter and friend), plan a wedding, and help take care of her family as she underwent chemotherapy and radiation. As many hoped and prayed, the chemotherapy and radiation worked and Mindy was in remission from the Hodgkins.
Life went on as normal until recently when Mindy started to notice her skin easily brusing and bleeding (February, 2016). Concerned, Mindy and Trevor sought medical care. Blood tests and bone marrow biopsy now confirm, Acute Myelomonocytic Leukemia (AML). Sadly, the AML is likely attributed to the chemotherapy she previously received to treat the Hodgkins Lymphoma. On Thursday, February 25th, 2016 Mindy and Trevor made the trip to Boston, MA to seek expert opinion, diagnosis, and treament and was admitted to Bringham and Women's Hospital on Friday February 26th.
Mindy is set to undergo an intensive chemotherapy regimen starting Wednesday March 2 to treat the AML. She will remain admitted to the hospital for an unknown length of time, no shorter than a month. Her friends, family, and husband must travel almost 5 hours to see and support her through this journey. She is now out of work, and her husband Trevor is taking unpaid time off to be by her bedside.
Boston, MA is one of the most expensive cities to live and travel in. Hotel accomodations are well over $100/night which does not include parking or meals. Any money raised through this campaign will go directly to Mindy and Trevor to help cover the travel and living expenses while Mindy is in Boston.
Please consider donating to their cause and please continue to pray for this amazing young woman who does so much for so many others. You can also follow her story at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/mindyives/mystory
