Mike needs financial help to be able to support himself during a rigorous 8 month unpaid internship. This is an incredible opportunity for him and a necessary step to be able to continue serving his community in an even larger capacity. In his own words: "I am determined to become a Registered Dietitian and start my career elevating the physical, social, and spiritual health of native peoples. Building professional connections as well as relationships with the community I live in are also a priority after obtaining my RD credential. To complement my career goals, I will use my personal time to take actions that contribute to the betterment of indigenous peoples because although nutrition is my focus, energy must be invested into other movements for native prosperity and reclamation of culture and land."
About Mike:
He has spent the last few years of his professional life providing nutrition counseling to families receiving WIC benefits. He has dedicated much of his time and energy to social justice efforts locally and beyond. He continues to use his skills to contribute to a local art collective comprised of activists fighting for BIPOC rights and liberation. Mike needs community to come together for him now and provide support to get him through the next 8 months.
About the internship:
The mission of the Southwestern Dietetic Internship is to prepare entry-level Registered
Dietitian Nutritionists to provide culturally-appropriate, comprehensive nutrition services in

be the sole RD working in a service unit located in a remote and isolated location. Two interns
per year are accepted into the program.
