Mike Nelson Fitness Journey

My name is Mike Nelson aka  'Dyspraxic Sing Song Mike'. I am a husband, father, fitness enthusiast, musician, singer-songwriter and editor from Nottingham, England.

It was after having been diagnosed in my teens with dyspraxia that I sought to raise awareness and support others also living with the hidden disability.  Starting a family, holding down employment and then becoming a homemaker naturally took precedence.

Voices in the dyspraxia community got louder upon the outbreak of the pandemic and upon interacting in detail with my peers it was evident that people more than ever were struggling both mentally and physically.

It was my friend and collaborator Billy Stanley (Dyspraxic Help 4U) who gave me the idea of inviting other dyspraxics to join me virtually for a free fitness workout. Having launched back in August of 2020 the now weekly event shall soon be celebrating its 100th edition.

We have had many people attend the workout throughout the past year and it's been a privilege getting to know everybody on the journey.

Feedback has shown that participants appreciate taking part as doing so has helped with their mental and physical wellbeing. Attendees also remarked on how impressed they were by the fact that they were able to discuss the workout with me privately before deciding whether it was suitable or not for them.

As a fitness enthusiast, I urge people to seek medical advice before embarking on any unfamiliar exercise routine. Additionally, minors are most welcome to do the workout with us but only when supervised on the call by a parent/guardian.

Group regulars have encouraged me to follow my dream of becoming a professionally trained fitness instructor which in turn will enable me to provide an even better experience for those who take part. I aim to continue free sessions for dyspraxics long into the future both virtually and in person.

Having explored options both locally and online, the best deal comes in at £500. I would love for the whole community to rally behind me by donating generously to this GoFundMe page. I have faith in the continued growth of the 'Dyspraxic  Fitness Workouts' and know how much of a benefit to those coming along it would be if I was professionally trained.

Please throw your support behind my goal of not only bettering myself but in being able to better support others.

Thank you!
